An Interesting part of the Pushkar fair Is the mass trading of camels. Of course, cattle and other livestock are also traded, but camels hold centre stage at Pushkar. Camel-traders and villagers from miles away converge here with their humped beasts. Over 25,000 camels arc traded,making this the world's largest camel fair.

the town contains five temples, all of modern construction because the earlier buildings were destroyed by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb (reigned 1658–1707).

Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. who was a devout Muslim but intolerant of other religions, once went to Pushkar to get the temples demolished. On reaching there, the King went to wash his face in the Pushkar lake but recoiled on seeing that the reflection in the lake was that of an old man with grey hair et al. Taking this as a bad omen. Aurangzeb decided against having the temples demolished and went back to his capital.

The principal temple and Pushkar Lake are dedicated to the god Brahma. Bathing ghats (stairways descending to the water) surround the lake, to which great sanctity is attached, and religious fairs there are attended annually by thousands of pilgrims.
